It took some barely relevant people on this planet to finally expose America’s First Gasbag in Chief.
It is one thing to be scoffed at by Armageddonijad and Kim Jong Il. When one is not important enough for the International Olympic Committee, one truly ceases to matter.
Before getting to my own commentary, I received a Top 10 List on the matter that is priceless.

8. Who cares if Obama couldn’t talk the IOC into Chicago? He’ll still be able to talk Iran out of nukes, right?

5. We’ve been quite clear and said all along that we didn’t want the Olympics.
4. This isn’t about the number of Olympics “lost”, it’s about the number of Olympics “saved” or “created”.

Now back to our First Gasbag in Chief.
In past years I would say that Barack Obama would be starting to look French, but Nicholas Sarkozy has shown that real change can make a positive difference.
Let me again reiterate that I could care less about the Olympics. I find them collosally boring. President Obama’s trip to Copenhagen is not the issue in itself.
First of all, the argument of wasting taxpayer dollars is criticism that goes too far. Presidents take trips all the time, and pursuing the Olympics is a legitimate undertaking. Yet presidential prestige cannot be squandered recklessly.
There are plenty of reasons why a reasonable person could have expected Rio De Janeiro to win the games. South America has never hosted before. America has many times. Holding the games in a new and pleasant location is sensible, and certainly fits in with the liberal notion of fairness and global equality. So the issue is not that Chicago was a terrible choice, but that Rio was an exceptional one. Mr. Obama cannot and should not be faulted for this.
What he should be faulted for is his narcissism. There is no way he would have taken the trip to Copenhagen if he thought Chicago would lose, especially so badly. Yet he is so in love with the power of his own words that he actually believed that he would carry the day.
Remember, he prostrated himself before the world, and apologized for America ever existing with George W. Bush at the helm. Some blamed animus toward President Bush for New York losing out to London in a previous round.
Yet in a theme that has been all too common, Mr. Obama is liked, but not respected. Simply put, he is irrelevant. He doesn’t matter. More importantly, as the gulf between soaring rhetoric and meager accomplishments widens, Mr. Obama simply declares victory.
Chicago loses the games? So what, he declares his presentation a success.
Economic trouble? So what, he states that things are getting better.
The CBO says his numbers do not add up? So what, he states that they do.
He announces talks with Iran and that the Iranians promised to be nicer. The next day the Iranians break their word, because that is what they do. Obama claims that things are moving in the right direction.
A couple of girls are kidnapped in North Korea. They are then released after we make concessions. Obama calls it a diplomatic success.
Mr. Obama is not a stupid man, not by any stretch of the imagination. Yet he does think that everybody else in America is stupid. He declares things to be truthful, with nothing to back up these things except for the fact that he said them. His entire rationale seems to be that if George W. Bush said or did something, it is automatically bad. If Obama does it, it is automatically noble and virtuous.
By trying to show that he knows everything, people come to the conclusion that he knows absolutely nothing. What he should be seen as is a man who knows some things and listens to his advisors when they know more.
President Obama is becoming more and more like Julius Caesar every day. Up until the moment Caesar is stabbed by Casca, he is convinced that everybody loves him to the point of worship.
Yet despite all of these setbacks, Mr. Obama simply does not allow humility to enter his behavior patterns. His speech to the IOC was not about the beauty of America or even about Chicago. It was about him personally. Michelle Obama spoke about her own father and her husband. Simply put, Barack Obama said that Chicago deserves the Olympics because Chicago gave us him.
The world is finally waking up to the fact that our President slathers himself in “Eau D’Obama Anus” cologne.
Their is no there there. His speeches are 45% platitudes, 30% bromides, 25% meanderings, and 5% nonsense. That adds up to 105%, which in Obamaworld adds up perfectly because he says so.
So if Barack Obama is irrelevant, why does all of this matter?
Because the President of the United States cannot and must not ever be irrelevant. People thought it was ok for Bill Clinton to be irrelevant, because the 1990s was a decade where “nothing really happened.” Yet sleepy decades are often followed by turmoil, often avoidable turmoil. Inaction is not “peace.” It is complacency, which is a threat to peace.
The world is a tinderbox. Iran is ready to explode. North Korea is selling bad stuff to other bad people.
The issue is not that Mr. Obama went to Copenhagen when so many other problems are occurring. As I said, if he could have won, the trip would have been worth it.
The issue is that the world is not taking him seriously. Anywhere. On anything.
Illinois Senator Roland Burris, a product of Chicago corruption himself, actually blamed George W. Bush for Mr. Obama’s failure. This is getting ludicrous. Does any sane person think that George W. Bush is to blame for Chicago not getting the Olympics?
Barack Obama as a candidate was elected because enough people wanted change. Yet he needs to stop campaigning, stop blathering, and stop being irrelevant. In short, he needs to get off of the television, sit down at his desk, and just stop showboating and do his job.
He needs to stop responding to defeats by just declaring them victories.
Liberals all over the world respond by saying “Well George W. Bush did (X, Y, Z, etc).” That doesn’t cut it.
Even if George W. Bush was responsible for kitty cats and puppy dogs crying at night, that does not change the fact that Barack Obama needs to deal with these issues now. If all he can do is assess blame, how is he useful?
The answer is, at this moment, he is useless.
Health care? The Pelosiraptor is handling that. Afghanistan and Iraq? Bush was responsible.
I want Barack Obama to matter. I want him to drop his “too cool for school” attitude and actually do the work.
The entire world is watching, and if he continues to abdicate his role as leader of the free world, others will be happy to take his place. Sarkozy and Benjamin Netanyahu are already filling in.
He needs to stop being that coach on the sidelines that stares with his arms folded. He needs to pound his fist on the table, knock over a water cooler, and show people he means business (behind closed doors).
Some point out that he very well could be doing all of this in private. If that were the case, there would be results.
If he manages to successfully deal with third world genocidal lunatics threatening to destroy Western Civilization, then nobody will remember his failing to get the 2016 Olympics. As I keep saying, the deck was not in his favor. His failure was not losing, but for not coming to grips with the fact that he even could lose when most bettors saw the handwriting on the wall as clear as a Rio beach.
Mr. Obama, I don’t even care if you have to get tough with Republicans and ram bills down our throats that I disagree with. I will be disgusted from a political standpoint, but at least your manhood won’t be in question.
Trust me sir, having people dislike you is no big deal. It comes with the job. Right now I, along with many others worldwide, like you personally. You are affable, or as our enemies see it, harmless.
Your likability is just not translating into respect.
Likability is not the ends. It is the means.
The end is winning, which means victories for America.
Barack Obama will most likely never read these words, and even if he does, as with any opinion he disagrees with, he will ignore them.
Yet I can handle him ignoring me. What cannot be accepted is the world ignoring him.
It is not the world’s responsibility to adapt to him. It is he who must “change.”
This must start now. The tinderbox is ready to blow.

When for almost two weeks now generals and commanders in Afghanistan are saying we need troops or we will fail, we just lost 8 soldiers, the most at one time in a long time, hes still has the idiocy to say he needs to think about it.

I entered a debate last week where the left was carrying the message that America should not see itself as so exceptional. Yet we are the exception to that rule when it comes to Obama pushing Chicago for the Olympics. As long as Obama was doing the stumping the mindless devoted maroons failed to stand behind the glorious position they espoused the left is all about.

I just went to a local market and bought my usual morning coffee.
The market early is not crowded. It gets crowded later on.

The market is really a machine like operation. The policies are
set back East somewhere. Everything is orderly, in fact nice. The store
is always spotless..the pastry is fresh, the meat doesn’t smell, and
the produce is watered down daily.
I recall going to markets in the East…I mean, some of them are
awful, just terrible. Nothing is fresh..and bosses argue with their
employees out in the open.

My point is that our involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq are like
going to the supermarket in California. Everything is neat and tidy.
The military is professional..tactics are planned 9 thousand miles away.
Deaths are relevant, but only minimally. 4 more killed here, and 4 more
killed there. An attack in Afghanistan over the weekend by hundreds of
Taliban fighters raises questions about Obama’s hesitation in sending
thousands more to that war.
Obama, the do-nothing President is pondering our (US) next move.
While he is thinking about it, ( and promoting the Olympic games
in Chicago), more US soldiers are dying.
I find it most interesting that the LA Times has articles today about
head wounds..both in warfare and civilian life..and the similarities.
In fact, the experience gained in Iraq and Afghanistan has little to do
with your basic hospital admittance, illness and the like. Most
US citizens do not have tramatic head injuries. Most people seeking
medical care are for diabetes, blood pressure, arthritis, cancer, skin
irritations, the flu and fever.
The experience gleaned in Iraq is virtually meaningless to most
Americans. sorry to say.
To President Obama: do something for heavens sake..make a decision
finally, put up or shut up. You were elected President by teenagers
and college students hoping for a CHANGE, from the bottom up ( hear

BTW, Mr. Moore is getting wealthier. Each movie he produces brings
in more millions. And what is he for…gun control, universal health care,

The Supreme Court will decide whether your average Joe Sixpack can
have a gun (including New York). Health care might be passed, but w/o
the taxpayer’s paying for most of it. I doubt we will be calling ourselves
the Socialist States of the United States, any time soon.
So, if you want to waste your hard earned after tax dollars go see his

I think Obama should be lauded for at least trying. And the way the voting works, Chicago could theoretically have won, even if Rio was the preferred choice. So it was worth the shot. A truly narcissistic president would not have made the trip. They wouldn’t risk their political capital on a slim shot. But Obama is good man who did the right thing by his country, and though the effort failed, it was not in vain and will be soon forgotten. Afterall, he did manage to accomplish one thing over there – he sat General McChrystal down in Air Force One in Copenhagen and had a nice little chat with him ostensibly about professional decorum, our civilian-controlled military and keeping his fat four-star mouth shut.
And, once again, I will be very proud to pay to see Michael Moore’s next film. It sounds good. And I hope he makes a fortune from it, so he can make many more films to p!$$ you guys off in the future! LOL! ;)

For once Jersey, I happen to agree with you (though it would be nice if Obama managed to give Afghanistan more thought than the Olympics). The General’s behaviour in leaking his report to the press, although borne out of frustration, was a severe breech of civilian-military protocol. I happen to believe that even though McChrystal is right in calling for more troops (and he has probably postponed Obama’s planned surrender to the Taliban for a few more months), the increasing willingness of the military in both Britain and America to make their views on strategy and foreign policy public is extremely worrying. One of the hallmarks of a democracy is (near) absolute military subservience to civilian authority. As Charles Moore stated in The Telegraph three years ago, “if they [the military] start to express their views all over the place, they become a force of opinion in the land. Eventually, their opinion is backed by force. That is what happens in banana republics”.
Although the surge was a strategic masterstroke, and the war in Iraq was generally the right thing to do, I believe that George W Bush made a huge mistake when he used General David Petraeus to deflect calls for a withdrawal in 2007. Not only was Petraeus’s role in the debate (as opposed to on the field) less effective than efforts of certain senators, but it set a bad precedent. Lest one think that this is an American problem, the upper echelons of the British military have also started to dip their toes in public debates, with General Richard Dannett (in)famously criticising Tony Blair’s Iraq policy in 2006 and now Sir Graham “Jock” Stirrup criticising Gordon Brown over Afghanistan.
After all, it is not like the military is immune from making mistakes when it comes to questions of grand strategy or foreign policy. Patton was a military genius, but was quickly removed from any post-war role after trying to bring back functionaries and officials from the Nazi apparatus and his apparent wish to confront the Soviet Union militarily, George Marshall opposed US recognition of Israel and Curtis LeMay famously believed that America should use nuclear weaponry to break the stalemate in Vietnam. Going back further, George McClellan’s reluctance to confront the Confederacy on the battle field was one of the major reasons why the Civil War lasted as long as it did.

As much as I hate to admit it, the CINC is in charge. There’s a parallel here with GEN McArthur and our US General in Afghan … for what it’s worth, we’re still in Korea… Sometimes being right isn’t enough.

Another argument against the military getting involved in politics, and doing the things Congress should be doing, is that Obama does have the ability to learn from his political mistakes and I’ll bet you any money that he’ll simply find someone in the Pentagon to do another report which, (surprise, suprise) finds that we “need” to pull out immediately. Indeed, there are indications that he has found such a leader in Jim Jones.
Obama will then have the efforntry to accuse Republicans and moderate Democrats of “ignoring what the military are saying”.

Interesting comments. We will not win in Afganistan no matter how many troops are on the ground. Most of the Afgan people don’t care about politics or freedom or who is running the government. Their leadership comes from their families and tribes. Their number one concern is what they are going to eat today.
I’m trying to think of something, anything, that the Administration or Congress has done this year that is actually in the best interest of the American People…
The Administration and its Congress has made a point to ignore the Citizenry. They will also ignore the military. We (the citizenry and the military) are considered adversaries.

Toma, there’s a lot more to Afghanistan than that! One of the biggest problems we have over there right now is that Karzai is just a Pashtun face on what is really a Tajik government and military. The Pashtun people, the majority population, are very leery of the Tajiks and they don’t work well together. There’s a lot of bad history there. It’s much more than just tribalism. The Tajik military and police must be broken up and replaced by Pashtuns if there ever is to be peace, but Karzai, who we should all know by now is a crooked sleazebag, needs to Tajiks to stay in power.
And there’s a lot more than that going on over there, Toma. I wouldn’t be so easily swayed by simplistic ethnic stereotypes if I were you.
And if you want to think of something the administration has done, look at Wage Rate Repayment for student loans. Think of SCHIP. Think of the tax cut (jeez, you’d think you guys would at least applaud THAT!)! There’s plenty of things Obama has accomplished. You guys just don’t pay attention to anything other than what you want to hear.

Truman was absolutely right. McArthur’s nonsense is what brought the Chinese into the war in the first place. And then he started talking about nuking China! The man had lost it. On the other hand, perhaps the Schwarzkopf analogy is one we could all agree on. When Schwarzkopf made it clear that he thought the first Bush administration was wrong to order him to leave the pincer open and allow Saddam’s best troops to retreat back to Baghdad, he was forced to retire. Had the first Bush administration listened to him, Saddam may well have been internally toppled and the later invasion of Iraq might never have happened. But GHWB was the president, and in our country, the president runs the military – period. Whether I think he made the right decision about the war or not, he did make the right decision to push Schwartzkopf into retirement (he could’ve and probably should’ve just outright dismissed him, but Bush knew how popular Schwartzkopf was, so he did the only thing he could, politically). We can’t have our military playing politics against our own Government Of The People.

Jersey, I didn’t argue with you about who’s in charge – and who SHOULD be in charge – it’s the President, by law. I certainly don’t agree with him, but I can’t advocate that we violate the law simply because I don’t like his policies and open this country up to being a military state. Not sure what your point is about McArthur – we backed off, against the advice of the General on the ground, and 60 years later, and tens of thousands of deaths later, we are still in Korea. After he was relieved, we attacked hilltops at the expense of many lives, conquered them, only to lose them a couple days later because not enough Soldiers could be put in place to hold them…only to take them, lose them, take them…you get the point…
GEN McChrystal is a great officer, and I know him personally – I do not question whether he needs 10, 40,000, or 100,000 troops. His predecessor was not as likeable and has an entirely different background, but it is interesting to note that he used a different set of experiences yet still came up with a battlefield calculus of about 40,000 troops needed. What is confusing to many is: have we, as a nation or as an administration, articulated what our desired endstate is? No. Although I agree that Afghanistan, in and of itself, is unwinnable in conventional terms, our presence can serve as a forcing function to develop the situation in the Middle East / Pakistan for the longer term war on terror…or “contingency operations”… GEN McChrystal appears to be positioning the troops in such a way as to not defend “everywhere”, hence being exposed, and instead is remaining fluid, establishing certain strongholds and staging areas – using additional manpower and intelligence to take it to the enemy. We are still reeling from harming innocents and getting bad propaganda, and even though their infrastructure is nonexistent compared to Iraq’s, we have an opportunity to “win” in different ways…maybe not a military victory in the country, but maybe a longer term victory over organized terrorism…. wishful thinking.
McChrystal made a huge mistake, though, Eagle. I recall back before the invasion of Iraq began, I asked a Navy LT friend of mine what he thought about it. He said, “I can’t express any opinion about it.” And that was that. McChrystal should never have answered that question.
With that, I’m sure he does know what he’s talking about. In fact, when you look at it, McChrystal is simply reiterating Obama’s stated plan from back during the campaign! How’s that for irony? But Obama needs to take time, look at all the options, and maker a careful judgement about this mess Bush left with him. Obama is going about this like a thoughtful adult. It’s about time we saw that in a president.

From a subordinate’s perspective, I agree it was not protocol for the general to publicy state his opinions – but from a citizen’s perspective, I applaud GEN McChrystal for risking his career to get a decision. There’s sometimes a fine line between “taking time for careful judgement” and “deer in the headlights”. I don’t agree that former Pres Bush left him with this mess any more than I believe Jesse Jackson’s claims it was his fault the US didn’t get the Olympics. Different argument.

He also added almost two million new acres to the parks, recreation and conservation lands and waters. He replaced the anti-gang moneys Bush cut to the tune of 2 bil. He signed a $2500 tax credit to help families with tuition. He’s now implementing the new Heath IT system that will revolutionize medical record handling. But I gotta say: the way you guys just ignore that massive tax cut is very telling. NOTHING this guy can do will ever meet with any of your approvals.

Hes trading off the safety of our troops in Afghanistan so he can hang on to that capital. The meetings over the supposed Afghan strategy right now are nothing but a bargaining session for healthcare.

I dont know what planet you’re on but he cant make one decision on Afghanistan yet except to make no decision at all.
Hes had 2 years of campaigning along with his meetings with NATO who refused him additional troops and with members of the EU who all told him “No, we wont help you in Afghanistan”. Hes had 9 months and 2 years of knowing what the deal is over there and the only reason he wont issue a decision yet is so he can see what kind of votes he’ll get for healthcare.
Gitmo will not close on time, healthcare will get pushed to Dec and our trade partners dont want anything to do with the dollar anymore.

In April, Bush signed 1.75 billion dollars in tax cuts for the filthy rich and mega-corporations. Boy, that was great! Deficits be damned!
In August Bush is warned that Osama Bin Laden is planning an attack on the US in a memo that he may never have even read because he was too busy being one of the most vacationing presidents in US history. At least he was responsible enough to be always refreshed!
In September we’re struck with the worst terrorist attack in US history.
In October, Bush reacts by signing the Patriot Act, essentially urinating on the Constitution. Yay!!!

Bush has done more to combat terrorism than all presidents combined and we were never attacked again after that. All other presidents suffered repeated attacks abroad and on our interests.
A few months ago for the first time since 911 a radical muslim killed an American recruiter on american soil.
Domestic and foreign cells are popping up everywhere because they see Obama as weak and an opportunity.
Jersey, Pres Bush prioritized efforts and focused on the immediate threat first – Iraq – and maintained a security holding pattern in Afghanistan – parallels with WWII in Germany and Pacific theaters. The intent was always to surge in Afghanistan once Iraq was stablilized. Media isn’t reporting accurately on numbers – we have over 120,000 and counting in Iraq – not the 50,000 so often reported. This is one reason the additional troops needed in Afghanistan is a bigger deal than many know. I can’t agree with you about the President’s brilliance. He’s a teflon tiger – all form, no substance – lots of breadth, no depth.
